The Screven County Community Collaborative will host the Tortoise & the Hare 5K Run/Walk this Saturday in Sylvania, benefiting their organization as well as the Screven County Soup Kitchen. The race is presented by Queensborough Bank.

The funds raised from the 5K will go to support and help these organizations continue to fulfill the needs of the community.

The Screven County Soup kitchen delivers hot meals to more than 150 families every Saturday. The people who receive these meals are primarily homebound and elderly. The Screven County Soup kitchen has provided this service for the Screven County community for many years.

The Screven County Community Collaborative is a non-profit organization dedicated to the children and families of Screven County. The mission and goal of the Collaborative is early literacy, and the Collaborative has a Tech Bus set up for "learning on wheels." The bus is equipped with laptops and two teachers who work with students after school and during the summer. These students are helped with reading and math work.

Registration begins at 7am at 117 Maple Street in Sylvania. The one mile fun run/Tortoise walk will begin at 8am, followed by the Hare 5K run at 8:30am.

Please register in advance online HERE. The cost for the fun run/walk is $10, and the 5K is $25. The deadline to register is September 21 at 11:59pm.
