The Georgia Southern football squad held its first practice in full pads Tuesday morning on the banks of Beautiful Eagle Creek.

As the NFL season draws nearer, the anticipation surrounding the Carolina Panthers' upcoming campaign has reached a fever pitch with the recent addition of Justin Houston to their roster.

The Georgia team members were Jackson Thigpen, Ann Parker, Lucy Saxon and Janelle Spivey. Events included tree identification, tree measurement, compass and pacing, insect and disease identification, topographic map use, forest evaluation, the forestry bowl, and a written forestry exam.

The schools will remain open for the full day, including afterschool programs. The district will run an early route for all bus riders beginning at 11:30 a.m. Any option two young riders without supervision at the bus stop will be returned to the school and taken home during the regular dismissal time. All children will be fed lunch before the 11:30 early bus dismissal. Car rider dismissal time will remain as regularly scheduled; however, parents may choose to pick up their child early.

The old Vandy's at the Mall location will soon be home to a new virtual golf restaurant and bar, Birdies at the Mall. The expected opening date is still TBA, but job opportunities are available now.

Bulloch County Public Safety are receiving a large number of reports of trees down and power outages throughout Southern Bulloch County. EMC and GPC crews are working to restore power. Use extreme caution if you have to travel in these areas.
