Wesley Fischer, a former firefighter and EMT, and a veteran Navy corpsman, spent more than 100 days in the hospital battling COVID-19 in 2021. He was determined to complete his degree and received unwavering support from the nursing faculty at Georgia Southern and classmates in his nursing cohort.

The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and MARTA partnered to deploy two retired 72-foot railcars to Artificial Reef L in about 60 feet of water approximately 23 nautical miles east of Ossabaw Island last week.

In 2021 in Georgia, 1,797 individuals died in motor vehicle accidents. That is an 8% increase over 2020 and the largest number of traffic fatalities in the state in the past decade. Data from Georgia Traffic Safety Facts show that nearly half (47%) of those who died in 2021 were not wearing seatbelts or secured in child restraints; and the number of drivers 65+ who were involved in fatal crashes increased by 14% in 2021.
