Georgia Power Company and Excelsior EMC are cautioning customers that power outages could extend until the end of next week. Georgia Power estimated restoration times for Bulloch on their outage map extends to Thursday evening October 3, 2024. EMC is projecting 7 to 10 days.

Pittman Park United Methodist Church will be open from 1 pm to 7 pm for those needing a place to refresh and recharge following the storm. Hot showers, hot meal, device recharging and AC.

Local leaders and emergency personnel gathered at the Bulloch County EOC today to provide an update on the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Helene. They outlined ongoing restoration efforts, addressed public concerns, and highlighted the resilience and unity of the community as they work together to recover and rebuild.

At the September 26 Statesboro Kiwanis meeting, Marilyn Darrell was named President of the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro. Several positions in the Kiwanis Club changed hands, and they also recognized some new faces. They also presented checks to several local organizations. The Kiwanis also talked about the upcoming fair, which is set for October 14-19.

Many local schools, as well as Georgia Southern and Ogeechee Tech, are closed in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. We will continue to update with re-opening information when we have it.

As our community enters its third day of recovery, the need for neighbors to come together and support one another has never been greater. While many remain without power, water, and essential services, we are calling on citizens, faith leaders, and volunteers to extend kindness and help lead our friends and neighbors through this critical time.

Statesboro firefighters will be in the area of Kingswood Ave., Lydia Ln., and Wilburn Cir. on Saturday, October 5 as part of their effort to make sure every family in Statesboro has a working smoke detector.
