Updated to include deceased name: Public safety agencies responded to a three vehicle crash early Wednesday morning February 22, 2023 just outside the city limits of Statesboro around Hwy. 80 West and Veterans Memorial Parkway in which one of the drivers has died.
Bulloch County 911 dispatched Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies, GSP, Statesboro Fire Department and Bulloch County EMS around 3:30 am to the three vehicle crash.
Bulloch County deputies were first on the scene and reported that one of the victims was entrapped in a vehicle from a head on crash. Statesboro Fire Department extricated the crash victim and she was transported in critical condition to East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC). Two additional Bulloch County EMS ambulances were requested to the scene and transported the drivers of the two additional vehicles to EGRMC.
Jake Futch, Bulloch County Coroner confirmed that a 47 year old Statesboro woman died at EGRMC from injuries sustained in the crash. Coroner Futch has confirmed that the deceased was Rebecca "Becky" Marsh, 47 with a Statesboro address.
Wrong way driver
According to GSP Sargent Robbie Scott the deceased was travelling west on Hwy. 80 when she was struck head on by a wrong way driver travelling east in the westbound lane of Hwy. 80. Her car was then struck a second time by a third vehicle. The 69 year old at fault driver suffered severe injuries in the crash.
GSP and Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies closed Hwy. 80 west from Stockyard Road to Veterans Memorial Parkway for several hours on Wednesday morning to allow GSP's Specialized Collison Reconstruction Team (SCRT) to respond to the scene and investigate the fatal accident.
GSP SCRT is in charge of the investigation. Charges are pending.
