August 21, 2025, marks National Senior Citizen's Day, a day to thank our Seniors for their wisdom, love, and lifelong contributions.

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed this day as a reminder to celebrate the impact Seniors have in our community. Today’s Seniors remain active, engaged, and essential to the good of our community and deserve our gratitude.

At Grice Connect, we proudly celebrate the lives and legacies of our local senior citizens through our Senior Moments feature series. Our features of this 'golden' group in our community are made possible thanks to the generous support of Southern Manor Senior Living.

From spotlighting community leaders like 104-year-old World War II veteran Annie Laura Wildenradt who was recently presented with an Award of Valor, to honoring lifelong educators and military veterans, and sharing the inspiring stories of seniors who continue to give back in remarkable ways, like recent Georgia Southern retiree Bill Smith, these features shine a light on their invaluable impact.

Every day, but especially today, honor them by showing you care: visit or call a senior loved one or friend, volunteer or donate to a nursing home, share a meal, take a walk, go shopping, or simply spend the day together.

Simple ways to say "I love you" to the seniors in your life:

  • Spend quality time with them! (My favorite!) Visit or call.
  • Listen to their stories! Ask about their talents, hobbies, or skills.
  • Offer to help! Run errands or complete small chores.
  • Treat them to a breakfast or lunch date! Bring a favorite treat to brighten their day.
  • Simply say THANKS to the Seniors in your life!

Make this a special ‘Senior Moment!’ Respect, cherish, and honor our Seniors, our true treasures.
