SHS student Xavier Deckard to present at garden's May 'Gather & Grow'

This coming Thursday, Statesboro High's Deckard will present his award-winning science fair project about how our landscape design choices can affect the environment.

The Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern will host its May "Gather & Grow" event on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 5:30-6:30pm at the Garden. Statesboro High School's Xavier Deckard will present "Hot-Scapes, Cool Solutions," his prize-winning science fair project that explores how our landscape design choices impact our environment.

Step into a world where dreams take flight and curiosity knows no bounds. Join us for a captivating, catered presentation that will transport you through the exhilarating highs and challenging lows of the high school science fair experience.

Experience the remarkable journey of Xavier Deckard, as he shares his path to victory, claiming the prestigious Best-in-Fair title at the Savannah Regional Science and Engineering Fair and advancing to compete at the State level.

Xavier, a junior at Statesboro High, has been active in academics, sports, and extracurriculars for three years. He played football and basketball, joined cross-country and volleyball teams, and is currently top-ranked in tennis.

Additionally, he’s a Science Bowl, Beta Club, and National Honors Society member, and has won several science fairs. He’s considering studying biology or civic engineering in college.

The cost for the event is $20 ($15 for Garden members), and tickets include the program, appetizers, and beverages. Click here to register.
