The next Free Market in the Boro will be held September 7th, 2024 from 12-3pm at Nonna's Garage, behind Nonna Picci on South Main in Statesboro.
Founded by Charly Kinship, the Free Market’s goal is to keep unwanted items out of the landfill and put them back into the hands of someone that can find those items useful.
Kinship has been active in the community for several years. Along with the Free Market, she opened a local shop, Kinship Endeavours (which recently closed its doors), and also has served on the Greener Boro Commission.
She has held workshops on sustainability and conscious consumerism for garden clubs, universities, churches and more.
Currently, she is the Coordinator for Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful.
Kinship says the free market is a way to share resources, and to support local farmers, organizations, and residents of Statesboro.
The market is looking for these items to repurpose:
- Cardboard: This goes to local farmers to use as a barrier for weeds
- Glass jars: For use as storage for canning groups, for local artisans for art, for making candles or natural self-care products, or for vases
- Grocery bags: For use by the Statesboro Food Bank
- Plastic lids: Used for crafts
- Egg cartons: For use by the Statesboro Food Bank and local farmers
The Free Market takes donations from 11am-2pm on the day of the market. They accept gently used items. Large items such as furniture need prior approval.
Recycling drop off will take place at the side gate.
The market is held at Nonna’s Garage behind Nonna Picci on the first Saturday of each month. There is no longer an entrance fee to attend.
Free Market In The Boro will have separate, clearly designated space with tables and tents.
