Bulloch qualifying ends with 11 of 26 races contested

Qualifying ends with eleven local races drawing challengers including Commision Chair, Commission 1-A, 2-A, 2-C, BOE District 3, 7, Sheriff, Coroner, U.S. Representative 12th, State House 158th and District Attorney. Click on the picture to read more.

Qualifying ended at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 7, 2024 for local elections. Citizens had a week to make their intentions known of their interest to seek public office by qualifying.

Out of 26 races, 11 are contested including:

  • Chairman of the Board of Commissioners - incumbent Roy Thompson (R) is being challenged by David Bennett (R).
  • Commission 1A - incumbent Ray Mosley (D) is being challenged by Ryan Brannen (R).
  • Commission 2A - incumbent Curt Deal (R) is being challenged by Ray Davis (R).
  • Commission 2C - incumbent Jappy Stringer (R) is being challenged by Bryan Pfund (R), Nick Newkirk (R) and  Len Fatica (D).
  • BOE District 3 - incumbent Stuart Tedders did not seek re-election.  Jennifer Mock (NP) and Suzanne Hallman (NP) have qualified.
  • BOE District 7 - incumbent Heather Mims (NP) is being challenged by Lisha Nevil (NP).
  • Sheriff - incumbent Noel Brown (R) is being challenged by Keith Howard (R).
  • Coroner - appointed incumbent Richard Pylant did not seek election. Deputy Coroner Chuck Francis (R), Deputy Coroner Craig Tremble (D) and Matthew Lovett (D) have all qualified.
  • U.S. Representative - Rick Allen (R) is being challenged by DJ Jackson (D) and Liz Johnson (D).
  • State Representative Butch Parrish (R) is being challenged by Madeline Ryan Smith (D).
  • District Attorney Daphne Totten (R) is being challenged by Robert Busbee (R).

Open Seats filled with no opposition

These qualifiers will fill positions of retiring office holders including:

BOE will see a new board member in District 1 as Glenn Womack did not seek re-election.

  • BOE District 1 - Lannie Lanier (NP) was the sole qualifier, so he will replace Womack.
  • Superior Court Judge Gates Peed (NP) did not seek re-election. Matt Hube (NP) was the sole qualifier so he will replace Judge Peed on the bench.

Judge of Supreme Court of Georgia

John Barrow, former 12th district U.S. Representative, has qualified to challenge incumbent Supreme Court Judge Andrew Pinson for a seat on the Georgia Supreme Court.  This is a statewide election.
