Researchers from Georgia Southern University invite African American and Hispanic/Latino/a community members to share their views on health and well-being in Statesboro and Bulloch County.

Drs. Stacy Smallwood and Kristina Patterson are leading a project to find legal solutions to local racial and ethnic health disparities. The project is named Project REACH (Racial Equity to Achieve Community Health) Bulloch. To start the project, they are asking community members who identify as African American and/or Hispanic/Latino/a to participate in roughly 60-minute focus groups and share their perspectives and experiences on health issues.

Participants will receive $40 for their time, and childcare will be provided. The project is supported by seed funding from Georgia Southern University’s Faculty Research Council.

“We believe that community members are the experts on their lived experiences, and those experiences should be the foundation for law and policy changes to improve health outcomes in our community,” said Dr. Smallwood. “What we hear in the focus groups will help us to make recommendations for structural change that improves the collective health of our community.”

Individuals who are interested in taking part in a focus group should sign up through the web link https://tiny.cc/REACHBulloch or call 912-434-7154.
