Portal community gathers to honor the memory of Landyn Wilkerson
Hundreds of balloons floated into the sky in front of Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare on June 5, as the Portal community honored the memory of 4-year-old Landyn Wilkerson, who was remembered for his loving spirit.
Members of the Portal community gathered under clear skies on Thursday, June 5, 2025, for a balloon release to remember young Landyn Wilkerson, who passed away on May 29. The event was held at Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare, where he attended.

Landyn was full of life and had a love for singing. He could make everyone laugh and would brighten every room he entered. His passion for music, especially playing the guitar, was undeniable -- he truly lived through music. Landyn was a true "character,"always joyful, always energetic, always bringing smiles. He loved to pray, which was a testament to the sweet and beautiful spirit he carried even at such a young age. He was a light in this world and his presence brought joy to all who knew him.

Community members arrived in large numbers, holding blue and white balloons outside Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare. Landyn had attended the center in Portal, Georgia, since he was 6 months old and was known for his loving personality. Maurice Hill speaks about the life of Landyn Wilkerson beside his mother, Travyana Wilkerson. The family of Landyn Wilkerson watches and listens as each speaker shares heartfelt words about their beloved child. A staff member from Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare reads a poem she wrote in memory of Landyn. Staff at the center play a vital role in creating a nurturing and loving environment that leaves a lifelong impact on the children they care for. Loved ones in attendance listen to poems and speakers honoring the memory of Landyn. A senior staff member from Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare delivers the closing remarks. Many attendees were overwhelmed with emotion as they listened to stories about Landyn’s loving presence. Attendees release their blue and white balloons into the sky in a show of solidarity. The sky quickly filled with hundreds of balloons, symbolizing the love everyone had for Landyn Wilkerson. Loved ones of Landyn Wilkerson are overcome with emotion as they watch the balloons float into the clouds. The balloons filled the sky one by one as they slowly faded into the distance. A memorial to Landyn Wilkerson stands outside Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare, where he touched the lives of many with his loving spirit. The hashtag #FOREVER4 has circulated widely on social media to honor his memory.
Texas Roadhouse will host a Dine to Donate event Monday, June 16, from 3 to 10 p.m. in partnership with Sweet & Tenderhearted Childcare. Ten percent of food purchases will be donated to support Landyn's family.
