A Special Election for the unexpired term of Brooklet City Councilmember Post #5 will be held from 7am until 7pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
This election is being held “separate and apart” from the Bulloch County election on the same date. The polling location will be the Bulloch County Recreation Department Brooklet Community Center at 416 N. Cromley Road, Brooklet, Georgia 30415.
Three candidate names are printed on the ballot, however Steve Stringer has now withdrawn from the election. Voters are to be informed that although Stringer’s name appears on the ballot, he is NO LONGER RUNNING. Joe Grooms and Sheila Wentz are now the only two running candidates.
Grice Connect strives to provide our readers with the information that helps them make informed decisions and encourage participation in local government. We reached out to the candidates and asked them to provide a brief biography about themselves and their priorities if they were to be elected as a Councilmember. Below are there responses as they were submitted:
Sheila Wentz
"I am a double eagle graduate of Georgia Southern University (1994 and 2015) with 28 years of experience in Financial Management. I've lived in Bulloch County for 20 years and 12 of those years within the city limits of Brooklet.
My goal as a public servant is to be a reasonable voice to represent the citizens of Brooklet. There is a lot of change going on, and planning for the present and future needs to be paramount as the city moves forward. This will require city council to provide targeted growth management. We have a lovely place to live, and we want to enhance it with grace and character for current citizens, and future generations to enjoy."
Joe Grooms
"I am a lifelong resident of Brooklet for 59 years. I graduated from Southeast High School class of '84.
I served as mayor from 2019 to 2023 of Brooklet. Enjoyed a long career, 40 years, in utility work and currently employed at Canoochee EMC. I humbly serve at Brooklet First Baptist Church. If elected, I look forward to serving the community that I care so richly."
The special election shall be held under the provisions of the Georgia Election Code, as amended. Questions and inquiries regarding this notice may be directed to:
