Statesboro and Bulloch County Fire Departments responded to a house fire in the 20 block of Lindberg Street in the City of Statesboro on Friday, June 2, 2023.
Bulloch County 911 dispatched the fire departments at 11:29 pm. A Good Samaritan motorist was driving in the area and noticed what they believed to be fire coming from the home and called 911.
Statesboro Police Officers were the first on the scene and reported smoke coming from the home, but no visible fire.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they immediately conducted a routine search of the home and discovered a man unresponsive inside the home. They immediately evacuated him from the home and began providing initial medical care.
Paramedics with Bulloch County EMS arrived on the scene moments later and began providing lifesaving care to the man. He was in serious condition when EMS left the scene with him.
"I can't say enough about how proud I am of our firefighters and paramedics. There is no question that this man is alive because of their rapid, aggressive and professional response," said Deputy Chief Bobby Duggar. "They did their job exceeding well tonight."
Firefighters train for worst case scenarios and often put their lives in great danger to ensure the health and safety of others. Their response and rapid interior search at this fire is a testimony to the countless hours of training. They executed their fire attack plan very well and tremendously heroically.
The same can be said about the Bulloch County EMS paramedics on the scene. Their rapid and advanced treatment of the victim at the scene was equally important to saving his life.
The Good Samaritans' call was equally important. Had the motorist not taken the time to call 911, engaging the rapid response of Statesboro Police Officers, Statesboro and Bulloch Fire and Bulloch EMS this outcome could have been much different.
Thanks to all of their efforts this Statesboro citizen is alive.
The home experienced fire, heat, water and smoke damage.
Statesboro Fire will conduct a routine cause and origin investigation.
