GALLERY | Relationships, resources, and resilience at Picnic for Prevention

On a sunny Statesboro day , Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Luetta Moore Park, members of Prevent Child Abuse Bulloch County and Bulloch County Commission on Human Services joined forces to provide residents of our community a comprehensive resource fair.

The Picnic for Prevention and Community Resource Fair was held at the Luetta Moore Park in Statesboro on Saturday, March 23, 2024. The morning, which started out with thunder, lightning, and rain, completely transformed to offer sunshine, warmth, and a balmy breeze.

Lora Cooper, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Bulloch County, and Catherine Hendrix, Executive Director or Bulloch County Commission on Human Services, organized the event to include the myriad organizations that comprise the latter organization.

Over 25 vendors were present for the event, including Safe Haven, Bulloch County Literacy Council, Promise686, Behavioral Pediatrics Resource Center, Peach State Health Plan, Bulloch County Health Department, The Camilla Foundation, and many more. The tables were set up both inside the community center as well as outside. Many vendors had trinkets, giveaways, and prizes in addition to the invaluable information they were providing. Representatives were enthusiastic about talking with attendees, building a face-to-face rapport, and sharing the many facets their particular organization had to offer.

One of the most vital giveaways was a booklet that contains all of the area resources Bulloch County has to offer, complete with their contact information and a description of what type of assistance the organizations provide.

The emphasis on mental and behavioral health, education, financial freedom, suicide prevention, youth & senior services, victim advocacy and assistance, and family wellness was both heartwarming and inspiring.

No matter what stage of life or what challenges residents may be experiencing, there is help; there is hope.
