On February 1, The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library began their annual Food For Fines drive. Food for Fines is a great way to reduce your library fines while also giving back to those in need in our community.

Caroline Johnson, Library Director, says patrons can also bring in extra items to “pay it forward”, which will help fellow patrons with overdue fines.

The library will forgive overdue fines in exchange for donations of non-perishable canned and packaged food for people and pets. Each item donated will equal $1 in fines forgiven on your account.

Johnson says, "We have this annual initiative to help library users reduce their fines, while also giving back to the community. We will also accept canned goods to donate if you do not have fines."

The food donations will go to the Statesboro Food Bank, and pet food will go to The Humane Society of Statesboro & Bulloch County and to Fixing the Boro. The Food for Fines drive will run until the the 28th of February.
