The Davenport House – an iconic c. 1820 property owned and operated by Historic Savannah Foundation – will host Family Day events on Sunday, July 27 and Sunday, Sept. 7 at the award-winning house museum, located at 324 E. State St. on Columbia Square in Savannah’s Landmark District.
Each event, which is free and open to the public, will offer creative activities and hands-on learning opportunities for children of all ages. The September Family Day event is made possible thanks to a generous sponsorship from Byrd’s Famous Cookies, adding a delicious local touch to the festivities.
“We’re delighted to offer family-friendly fun and educational activities at the Davenport House Museum this summer and fall,” said Danielle Hodes, Executive Director at the Davenport House Museum. “We warmly invite local residents and visitors to join us for our latest Family Day events as we continue to celebrate Savannah and share our city’s fascinating history with future generations.”
Attendees are invited to explore The Literary Arts at the Davenport House’s Family Day on Sunday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This community-focused event will celebrate literacy and will feature opportunities for creative expression through reading, writing and poetry. Enjoy a pop-up shop from local favorite The Stacks bookstore, personalized poems crafted on-site by poet Alex Wilkinson and a hands-on alphabet embroidery sampler activity led by textile expert Victoria Crabtree.
In addition, the Davenport House will host a scrumptious Family Day on Sunday, September 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Generously sponsored by Byrd’s Famous Cookies, this fun-filled event will explore the Rich History of Southern Sweets — and wouldn’t be complete without a taste of Byrd’s own signature confections. Attendees can also sample classic Southern desserts, including historic recipes and cookie favorites, along with live cooking demonstrations and more.
