County Commissioners honor local youth, approve cryptocurrency mine

Bulloch County Commissioners met during regular session for their bi-monthly meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6.

The commissioner's meeting began with a special presentation honoring youth state champions in track and baseball.

Commissioner Curt Deal announced after the presentation that the Harrison Deal Scholarship Fund implemented this spring has helped 146 youths participate in Parks & Recreation sports so far.

Deal also announced an annual college scholarship for a part-time Parks & Recreations employee. The inaugural scholarship went to Carson Estep, an accounting major at Georgia Southern.


Zoning Variance Requests

Withdrawn: The Georgia Transmission Corporation has submitted an application for a conditional use to allow a Commercial Cryptocurrency Mining operation. The property is located at 5634 Hwy. 119 North.

Withdrawn: Wayman E. Shuman has submitted an application to rezone 60.2 acres from AG-5 to R-25 (residential 25,000 sq. ft.) to allow for the development of a single-family subdivision. The property is located on Shuman Road and Old River Road.

Approved: Motion to approve a contract with Maxwell-Reddick and Associates, Inc., in the amount of $58,800 to perform surveying and engineering design services for the Josh Smith Road Paving Project, to be funded by TSPLOST.

Approved: Discussion and/or Action: Motion to approve a change order with EMC Engineering in the amount of $5,500 to relocate a drainage easement on the Hood Road Paving Project.
