Bulloch County Teacher of the Year and Georgia Teacher of the Year Top-10 Finalist Ashleigh Wright has received another honor. This time from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On May 9, at Southeast Bulloch High School, the school district was honored to welcome Mike Cox, commander of the local VFW Post 10825 in Statesboro, and Dean Rakoskie, also a member of the local Post, who is currently serving as the 76th State Commander of the Department of Georgia, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

They presented Mrs. Wright with two awards and a check for $300. She was the local Post-level and district-level winner of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program. The district comprises 11 VFW Posts in southeast Georgia. She also placed second at the state level of the competition.

Wright was nominated for this program by Bulloch County Schools due to her role as an exemplary social studies teacher, who in teaching her American Government and Advanced Placement Government & Politics, helps youth learn about our rich history, traditions, and the role of our veterans in creating and shaping America.
