After decades of service to local youth and families, the Boys & Girls Club of Bulloch County will permanently close its doors on July 25, 2025, according to a statement released Friday, June 20, 2025 by the organization’s Board of Directors.

The organization has struggled to regain financial footing after the arrest of its former CEO and his wife, who was the organization's bookkeeper, in 2023. Two years later, their case remains unadjudicated. The resulting fallout in revenue from grants and contributions have been significant, and the loss of the 21st Century Grant was a major blow financially and proved to be too much to overcome.

The staff and board have worked valiantly to prevent this closure. The decision follows what the board described as “extensive evaluation and consideration” of financial, operational, and structural challenges that have proven insurmountable despite the Club’s ongoing efforts.

Like many nonprofit organizations across the country, the Bulloch County Club has faced increasing pressure to maintain its level of service in the face of rising costs and severely limited resources.

“For many years, our Club has stood as a cornerstone of hope, opportunity, and support for the children and families of this community,” the board stated. “This difficult decision was not made lightly.”

The Club has long provided afterschool programs, summer activities, and mentorship opportunities aimed at empowering young people to thrive. In its message, the board offered heartfelt thanks to the Club’s members, families, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners for their dedication and support.

“We know that the closure of the Club will leave a void,” the letter acknowledged. “We are actively working with local partners to identify transitional resources and support for our youth beyond July 25th.”

While the organization’s operations will cease, board members emphasized that the Club’s legacy lives on through the accomplishments of the youth it served and the lasting bonds built within the community.
