Woman chooses YMCA Critz Tybee Run Fest as her 300th half marathon

The YMCA Critz Tybee Run Fest is a two-day running event taking place the first weekend of February as a fundraiser for the YMCA of Coastal Georgia. This year welcomes Tracey Newenhouse, a New Jersey paramedic and grandmother who has chosen the Run Fest’s "Chu’s Mart Half Marathon" as her 300th half marathon. Friday, February 3, the Day of the Event, also marks Newenhouse’s 63rd Birthday.

AgSouth Farm Credit awards Forsyth Farmers' Market $5,000 grant

Each year, AgSouth Farm Credit supports nonprofit organizations and farmers’ markets with grants of up to $5,000 to support the future of agriculture in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Forsyth Farmers’ Market was one of 40 grant winners selected from a pool of 274 applicants for 2024. The grant will be used to support the Forsyth Farmers' Market's Youth Booth program.

One local group of pickleball players collaborated to honor Martin Luther King by organizing a lunch social and competitive play event at the Sue Colquitt Oertley Courts to celebrate diversity within their sport and community.

City, CRC to host final meeting for comprehensive plan update

The City of Statesboro and the Coastal Regional Commission of Georgia will host the final of three stakeholder meetings for the Statesboro Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday, February 13. The meeting will take place in the Statesboro First United Methodist Church fellowship hall, and members of the public are invited to attend and share their ideas and vision for Statesboro’s future.

As the daughter of Mack and Merry Johnson, both of whom were collegiate basketball players, Eden was fated to be an athlete, but basketball was not her first love growing up. A transfer to Georgia Southern, she has one year of eligibility left and plans to make the most of her academic and basketball careers.
