The East Georgia Regional Medical Center is reflecting on its operations and community impact in 2022.
“We help people get well and live healthier by providing quality care for patients,” said Stephen Pennington, chief executive officer for East Georgia Regional Medical Center. “Our community is truly fortunate to have this dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers here in Statesboro who are making a real difference each and every day.”
Last year the center provided care at more than 270,900 patient encounters, including:
- More than 48,300 emergency department visits
- More than 8,500 inpatient admissions
- More than 9,700 surgeries
Over 203,000 patients received care across the three primary care clinics, four specialty care physician clinics, the pain management center, wound healing center, outpatient endoscopy center, outpatient rehabilitation services clinic, sleep lab and the satellite imaging center.
More than 1,500 babies were born at the center last year.
Additionally, the East Georgia Regional Medical Center applied more than $1.5 million to capital improvements at its facilities. These improvements include:
- New surgical and imaging equipment
- Expansion of the cardiac monitoring system
- The addition of specialized laboratory equipment and respiratory technologies
“The vital care we provide is only one part of the broad impact we have. We are a cornerstone of this community and we are committed to doing all we can to provide excellent healthcare services and to making Statesboro and Bulloch County a healthier, better community for all,” said Pennington.
The center also gives back to the broader southeast Georgia region by providing over $93.9 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.
The center provides support for the following local charitable and community organizations:
- Support for the Hearts and Hands Clinic, which provides free primary health services for citizens of Bulloch County
- The Christian Social Ministries Thanksgiving Meal drive that provides over 800 families with meals for the holidays
- Safe Haven, which supports adult and child victims of domestic violence
The center is also a major employer and tax-payer in Bulloch County. In 2022, its overall economic impact totaled more than $193.5 million.
The hospital’s payroll also totals more than $82.4 million. Last year the hospital added enhanced benefits for its employees, including assistance with student loan repayments, reimbursement of licensure and certification expenses.
