The One Boro Violence Prevention Task Force will host its second annual Securing Statesboro violence prevention forum.

The forum will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Statesboro Family YMCA, located at 409 Clairborne Avenue in Statesboro.

The theme for this year's forum is "Beyond the Numbers."

Suzanne Shurling, co-chair of the task force, explains the theme by stating, "Often, conversations about community violence get conflated with crime reporting and statistics. However, we recognize that violence takes many forms, and not all incidents of violence get reported as crimes. Our goal is to have conversations about how violence manifests in our communities, and recommendations for how we can redress it."

A central part of this event will be small group listening sessions. In these sessions, community members can offer a wide range of perspectives. The task force will utilize these perspectives to inform future violence prevention efforts.

In addition, presentations will also be given by the following:

  • Keith Wilkey - Director of School Social Work & Homeless Liaison, Bulloch County Schools
  • Jenny Maddi - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), The Teal House
  • Catherine Findley - Bulloch County Solicitor General

One Boro invites members of the community to join them this Saturday as they engage in intentional, guided conversations about the state of violence in Statesboro and identify a sustainable path forward.
