East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) has seen an increase in COVID positive patients. They currently have nine COVID patients in the hospital and one on a ventilator.
In Grice Connects weekly COVID report on Monday we shared how dramatically COVID positive cases were rising again.
Grice Connect inquired about the vaccination status of the patients they are treating, if the patients are trending yonger and if the Delta Variant has been confirmed in any of these cases.
According to the CDC the delta variant, a highly contagious strain of COVID-19 first detected in India, now makes up approximately 83% of coronavirus cases nationwide. This is a dramatic increase from July 3, where only 50% of the cases were linked to the Delta variant.

One Visitor Per Patient
EGRMC is currently limiting visitation to 1 visitor per patient. All visitors must be over the age of 16.
By entering the facility as a visitor, you must attest that:
- You do not have any symptoms of COVID-19
- You do not have any new loss of taste or smell
- You do not have a fever of more than 100° F
- You have not had recent unprotected close contact with a COVID-19 positive person - You are NOT currently COVID-19 positive
The number of entrances to the hospital remains limited.
All visitors for patients should enter the hospital through the Outpatient Entrance Monday – Friday between 5:30am – 7:00pm, and on Saturday and Sunday between 9:00am – 3:00pm.
After hours, visitors must enter through the Emergency Department entrance. Those visiting patients in the Women’s Pavilion may enter at that entrance.
Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 or who are under investigation may not have visitors. We do encourage you to use electronic communication for “virtual visitation” such as FaceTime and Skype.
Visitors without masks will not be allowed to enter the facility. Visitors will be required to wear a mask or face covering (over your nose and mouth) at all times and will not be allowed to remain in the hospital without one.
Proper infection prevention practices, including hand washing/sanitizing and social distancing, must be followed by all visitors.
Vaccination is the best way to stop the spread of COVID
We are entering a very frustrating phase of the pandemic which is now becoming the "pandemic of the unvaccinated." People who are vaccinated can still get COVID and can possibly spread COVID. However, their chances of being hospitalized or worse yet, dieing from COVID is greatly reduced.

COVID TESTING
Click here to register for FREE COVID PCR test Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM and the last Saturday of the month from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
These test are given in Downtown Statesboro in the parking lot located on the East Side of Railroad Street between Hill St and Courtland Street.
Most providers, urgent cares and pharmacies can do rapid COVID testing and PCR testing. However, these are not FREE.
