The Bulloch chapter of the NAACP will hold a blood drive on Friday, September 30, from 1 to 5pm at the Agape Worship Center at 810 West Grady Street Ext. in Statesboro.
The blood drive is in recognition of September being Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month. More than 100,000 individuals in the U.S. are suffering from sickle cell disease, the majority of whom are of African descent.
Many may require regular blood transfusions to help manage and treat complications of the disease. For these individuals, it is essential that the blood they receive be the most compatible match possible, which generally comes from someone of the same race or similar ethnicity.
Those wishing to donate should visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter: BullochNAACP to schedule an appointment.
