"We want families across the district to attend," said Sharon Wilkins, coordinator for the school district's family engagement program.

Wilkins and her team of family engagement specialists work with schools to host the events at Bulloch County's 13 Title I schools, which includes all of the school district's schools except Statesboro High and Southeast Bulloch High.

The events will feature a brief Title I Annual Meeting, then families will have a choice of breakout sessions to attend with topics such as school attendance, the importance of literacy and building literacy skills, testing, and more. There will also be information about curriculum, available communication tools, and learning resources to help your child thrive.

This is also another time for parents to visit classrooms, speak with teachers, and learn more about expectations for students. When you are engaged with your child's school, your child is more engaged in learning and will be more successful as a result.

Title I, the largest federally funded program for K-12 schools, supports districts based on the number of students who are economically disadvantaged. Title I funds provide extra educational services for those in need. Bulloch County Schools' Federal Programs Department employs a team of parent and family engagement specialists who help plan programs such as these, connect families to resources, and serve as a liaison between families and their child's school to improve engagement.
