Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) is celebrating another impressive performance by its Cybersecurity students in the Spring 2025 National Cyber League (NCL) team competition. In only their second semester of competing, students achieved top national rankings, solidifying the program’s growing reputation for excellence in cyber defense education.

Led by instructor Terry Hand, two teams from OTC participated in the national tournament, which challenges students with real-world cybersecurity scenarios. Team A placed 120th out of 4,779 teams—landing in the 98th percentile nationally. Even more impressively, they scored in the 99th percentile in several key event categories, including Network Traffic Analysis, Open Source Intelligence, and Web Application Exploitation. Team B also had an impressive showing placing 475th, putting them in the 91st percentile.

“For this to be only our second semester competing and already see these kinds of results—it’s just amazing,” said Hand. “Our students are proving they can hold their own on a national stage.”

The NCL offers hands-on opportunities for students to test their skills in areas like ethical hacking, cryptography, password cracking, and log analysis. These competitions not only reinforce classroom learning but also help students build resumes and gain experience applicable to careers in the rapidly growing cybersecurity industry.
