Everyday Tutoring opened its doors on October 3rd. Co-owners, Antoine Wooten and his wife, Valyncia, dedicate their time to helping students that need extra attention in academia.

“Tutoring wasn’t on my radar,” Antoine Wooten said. His interest was in technology, and with his wife being in education, what better way to combine the two than to create a student center focusing on both.

The program services include tutoring for grades K-12, technology resources, mentorship, mystery theater, and STEM camp throughout the year. The space is also open for kids to play and citizens to come study. The facility is specifically open from Monday to Saturday to ensure these goals.

The student center is located in the University Commons shopping center at 581 Northside Drive (behind Walgreens).

Starting from scratch: Development of program

After many years of discussing benefits of starting an all inclusive program for children, the Wootens did a soft launch in the 2018-2019 school year. Once COVID-19 took the world by storm, they didn't stop but continued to tutor virtually. The Wootens realized that there was still a need for assistance, which pushed them to open their own self-funded program. The co-owners put the pedal to the metal and completely transformed the empty building to a well-oiled machine for learning.

Student Center activities

"We have four tutors that are regulars and a few volunteers from Georgia Southern -- students who are in education and people who are interested in teaching," Antoine Wooten said.

Now, Everyday Tutoring has more to offer than academics: student activities such as technology, mystery theater, art, comedy and mentorship classes.

In the technology class, students will learn coding, with emphasis on creating websites and video gaming. The introduction to coding class instructor, Amyrah Wooten, will teach coding skills such as problem solving, understanding technology, learning a universal language, and improving career prospects.

The mentorship classes will focus on males first, with an emphasis on grooming, job interviewing, budgeting, and entrepreneurship; female mentorship will come thereafter.

The program will also present mystery theater, comedy, and art shows for students.

"We want kids to come and express their talents," Antoine Wooten said. "This is a way for them to use their imagination."

More about the Wootens

We are so excited to open the Everyday Tutoring Center here in Statesboro. Together, we share a love and passion for teaching, mentoring and technology education. Our desire is to bring a place where kids can go and get academic, emotional and social support so that they will learn how to advocate for themselves and become productive members in our county.

Valyncia is a Double Eagle Graduate from Georgia Southern University, earning a Masters in the Art of Teaching. She was a middle school math teacher for 9 years. She is certified in Mathematics (4-8), Science (4-8) and Special Education (K-12). She truly loves the students that she has taught and takes care of each day and loves to see them when we are out shopping.

Antoine has over 20 years of retail experience, a strong passion for technology education, and a drive for change through positive relationships and mentorships. Creating a space for young people to come, learn and explore different careers in technology, educational avenues, and how to carry themselves as respectable young men and women, has been the driving force behind him opening Everyday Tutoring Center. He feels that by giving young people a safe space to learn, grow and explore will help them become better adults in the future, creating a Strong Statesboro.

We look forward to working with your child and helping them grow academically, emotionally and socially. --Antoine and Valyncia Wooten
