Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar has ordered all City of Statesboro flags to be flown at half-staff to honor the passing of Statesboro High School boys basketball coach Lee Hill.

Lee Hill passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020, after a two-month-long battle with COVID-19. He was 68 years old.

“Our community has suffered a great loss,” said Mayor McCollar. “It’s difficult to put into words the relationship a coach has with his players and the school he serves. To many, Coach Hill was more than a coach — He was a role model, a father figure, and a confidant. The impression he made on each student, parent, and faculty member he came into contact with will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by us all.

Hill served as the head boys basketball coach at Statesboro High School for over 40 years and led the team to a state championship in 1991.

A local legend and mentor to generations of Statesboro High School students, Hill leaves behind a lasting legacy.

The City of Statesboro asks that everyone keep Hill’s family members in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

You can click here to view Coach Hill’s funeral arrangements as soon as they are released.  Hill’s funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

City flags will remain at half-staff until Hill’s internment.
