Two individuals have been arrested after a wallet, backpack and laptop were stolen out of a car in the university parking lot.
Amaan Malik Jones, 18, of Licolntown, and Dontavon Da’Shaun Norman, 18, of Statesboro, have both been charged with one count each of entering auto and theft by taking (articles from vehicle).
On the evening of Oct. 13, a student reported that his belongings had been stolen from his vehicle. The vehicle had been parked in the Southern Pines residence hall parking lot.
The two men are accused of breaking into a car and stealing the goods. Neither of the individuals are students at the university. They were identified by Georgia Southern Police through the use of surveillance footage.
After reviewing camera footage from the parking lot, investigators saw two individuals walk through the parking lot. While walking through the lot the individuals were pulling on almost every vehicle door trying to find an unlocked car.
During the investigation, officers recovered the stolen wallet, backpack and laptop.
With several reported break-ins around Statesboro, University officials are advising students and staff to lock their vehicles to prevent theft.
