The Statesboro Youth Chorale will perform their annual Holiday Concert at Pittman Park United Methodist Church on Monday, December 12, 2022. The concert will begin promptly at 6:00pm, and admission is free to the public!

The Holiday Concert will feature local youth singing various scores of music ranging from fall carols to festive classics.

About Statesboro Youth Chorale

The Statesboro Youth Chorale is a regional chorus for local children aged 6 to 15 years old (unchanged voice). The youth chorale launched back in January 2020 with 30 local children. However, once Covid began in Spring 2020, the choir had to disband for almost 2 years. But in the Summer of 2022, the committee decided to reestablish the chorale.

To the committee’s joy, 20 local children joined, as the public was overjoyed at the reinstatement of the local chorale.

For the upcoming Holiday Concert on the December 12th, fifteen students will be singing. The choir is headed by Dr. Michael Braz, Dr. Tamara Watson Harper, and Mrs. Emily Kochetta. Each of these administrators has an extensive background in music education.

Spots available for anniversary year

The Statesboro Youth Chorale has open spots currently available for the upcoming spring semester season for more students to join. The chorale regularly meets on Monday evenings from 4:30pm-6pm. Also, each season holds a comprehensive musical concert at the end of the semester. The enrolled students perform their learned musical scores to the public's seasonal delight. Dr. Watson-Harper implores parents to sign their students up for the spring semester. This is especially encouraged this year, as it is the 30th anniversary of the Statesboro Chorale next May 2023. The chorale and its administrators desire to have the choir filled with as many students as possible for this occasion. It is a local musical custom which has reached a huge milestone, and it deserves to be celebrated for standing the test of time!

Currently, registration rates are $275 a year, but smaller fees or scholarships may be available to needs-based students. The yearly fee goes towards paying for new music for the semester and concert uniforms for the students.

Fostering talent and friendships

Dr. Braz, Dr. Watson-Harper, and Kochetta all donate their time to the Youth Chorale. They earn no personal profit from the endeavor but simply lend their musical gifts to Statesboro’s youth. Each of them stands united in the goal of supporting these students’ musical desires and fostering their tuneful talents.

Dr. Watson-Harper is very eager to begin enrolling new students into the chorale for next semester. She shares that “if your child loves to sing, or is in search of a musical activity that fosters their talent, please contact our administrative team for additional registration support.” Furthermore, lasting friendships are formed by students in the chorale! The collective camaraderie from the students and administrators promotes and atmosphere of weekly shared fun.

The Statesboro Youth Chorale would like to thank the Pittman Park United Methodist Church. Pittman Park has provided the space for the chorale to hold their weekly practices. Additionally, the chorale thanks Wendy Doty, Pittman Park Church Administrator. Doty facilitates the prioritization and scheduling of the space for the chorale’s practices.
