Seniors, did you know that Bulloch Recreation and Parks has an entire line of programming just for you? We recently welcomed a new 50+ Coordinator, Tiffany Burgess. Tiffany has lived in Statesboro for 3 years and has worked in the medical field for 10 years. We are excited about the new ideas that Tiffany has planned for our Adult 50+ population.

The membership fee for a wide variety of weekly programming is just $40 per calendar year. The fee includes participating in weekly exercise classes (low impact/seated), art/craft activities, field trips, occasional lunches or lunch trips, Silver Liners (line dancing), games, Bingo, and more.

Seniors with caregivers are also welcome to join. The recreation programs are great for socializing and experiencing fun, engaging activities designed for the Adult 50+ population.

Bingo brings together friends and fun

Here's all the fun you can expect from the weekly schedule.

TUESDAY

9:30-10:15 am: Chair Yoga

During chair yoga, seniors stay active without putting too much strain on the joints. This improves flexibility, and we concentrate on breathing which helps lung function.

WEDNESDAY

10am: Scrabble

According to gamesver.com, playing Scrabble has many benefits! It keeps your mind active, enhances concentration skills, lowers blood pressure and boosts the immune system. But it's also just plain fun and a great time to socialize with other Seniors!!

THURSDAY

9:30am-10:15am SitFit
10:30am-11:15am BINGO
11am-12pm Painting/Art Class (3rd Thursday)
2pm-3pm Silver Liners Line Dancing

SitFit: This is another exercise that helps to improve joints, motion, and just a good low impact work out. It helps to improve focus and range of motion. Seniors exercise together at whatever level they feel most comfortable. Weights are included for part of the exercise and some standing positions to help with balance.

Bingo: Bingo is free for those enrolled in our Adult 50+ membership, and a great time to socialize. Winners enjoy small treats of goodies, and sometimes a gift card for lunch at one of our local restaurants. Stop by to enjoy the fun and maybe have a little luck!

FIELD TRIP FRIDAYS

Two Fridays each month, we will have a field trip. The deadline to sign up will be the Friday before. Field trips are an additional cost, which depends on where we are going that week!

September Trips:

  • Tuesday, September 12 (Not the usual Friday) - Pinspiration in Pooler for candle making and lunch at Cheddars (There is an additional fee for the trip, and lunch is on your own.)
  • Friday, September 29 - Coleman House in Swainsboro (This is a fabulous lunch buffet that you don’t want to miss; lunch is on your own. **We have limited transportation so be sure to sign up early!)

LUNCHEONS

We plan to start back our luncheons soon (more info available in September). Some months we will have “bring your favorite dish” centered around a theme.  September will be “tailgate” theme where we will have hotdogs and all your favorite sides. There will be a sign up list the week before so that individuals can sign up to bring specific foods. These luncheons may include speakers from the community that have an interest in serving our Adult 50+ population.

SILVER LINERS

Every Thursday afternoon, join Mrs. Thelma for some fundamental line dance moves -- and enjoy the great exercise. This class is great for beginners and novice dancers.
