STATESBORO – Congratulations to the Statesboro High girls tennis team as they started their season out by defeating West Laurens 4-1 at Mill Creek on Tuesday.  That was a big win as West Laurens won their region last year and also made the Elite 8.

How It Happened

  • Maggie Proctor and Jolee Jordan got the Lady Devils on the board first with a big 6-2,6-0 win at first doubles.
  • Naomi Feltman was just behind them with a 6-1,6-2 win at first singles to go up 2-0 in the match.
  • Lindsay Collins and Annalia Small clinched the win with a strong second set for the ladies with a 6-4,6-1 win at second doubles.
  • After dropping a close match at second singles, Anna Washington then had a hard fought win at third singles as she finished up the scoring with a 6-2,6-4 win.
  • Lorelei Prosser and Sophia Pellegrino had a big 6-0 win in exhibition doubles.
  • Nellie Watanabe and Christina Zheng also picked up a win at doubles.

And then on Thursday Afternoon, the Statesboro Lady Devils Tennis team hosted perennial power Lakeside High School out of Augusta. Statesboro dropped all 3 singles matches in straight sets. First doubles had a marathon match that went 3 sets before losing in a 3rd set tiebreaker.

How It Happened

  • Lindsay Collins and Annalia Small started slow with a tough first set, but stormed back to win the second set 6-2 and won the third set tiebreaker 11-9 to notch a victory for the Devils.
