Statesboro High and Brunswick played the final game of their week-long series on Thursday evening. After splitting both games of their doubleheader from earlier in the week, both teams were looking to secure a win to break the tie. Statesboro jumped on their opponents early and controlled every facet ahead of their 14-0 victory.
With combination of dominating offense and stifling defense, the Blue Devils were able to send the spectators home in the 4th inning. Statesboro sent several pitches into the outfield. Once they got on base, they were really aggressive advancing to the next base.
Going into the second inning, the Devils already had a 5-0 lead. Senior Terrece Gibson hit a single to get on base. Kate Yawn would follow up by launching a ball into centerfield over the fence for a 2-run homer. That is Yawn's second career home run. Her first came in a game last week. Statesboro would pour in more runs with Ragan Fuller, Chloe Larson, Alexis Weaver, ShaCarrii Lee all making it back to home plate to make the score.
Head Coach Karry Parker spoke on the play of her team. "We just got to focus on one pitch at a time, one inning at a time," Parker said. "They played probably one of the better start-to-finish games of the season. It helps when you jump on somebody."
