Statesboro Baseball shows out on Senior Day

Six Statesboro High Baseball seniors were honored on Friday, April 12, during the Senior Day ceremony. The Blue Devils swept the Jenkins Warriors in a doubleheader.

The Statesboro High baseball team hosted Jenkins for a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils completed the sweep of the doubleheader and the series against the Warriors. 

The Blue Devils dominated their opponents in the doubleheader. The bats were hot all day and the defense kept the Warriors off the board. Statesboro won the first game of the doubleheader 16-1 when the game was stopped at the end of the 3rd inning. 

Jenkins scored the first point of the game, then the Devils ran off 16 unanswered runs including 10 in the second. 

The second game of the doubleheader was almost identical to the first. The Blue Devils won in a 18-2 rout. Statesboro is on a three game winning streak and is looking to build momentum going into the postseason. 

Statesboro's record improves to 12-14 on the season with a 7-5 record in region play. Jenkins drops to 9-13 with a 1-11 record in region play.

In between the two games, the Blue Devil seniors and their families were welcomed on the field. The players were walked to the batter's box by families. The players left messages to their younger teammates. A lot of the messages talked about working hard and giving your all to the game. The final part of the ceremony included the parents of the players throwing out the first pitch to their sons. 

UP NEXT:

The Statesboro Blue Devils will play their final series of the regular season against the Greenbrier Wolfpack. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16. The first game will start at 4:00 p.m.

Statesboro and Greenbrier will play the first two games at Greenbrier before coming to Statesboro for the final game of the series on Thursday, April 18.
