STATESBORO – Both Varsity Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jacket teams fell short to the New Hampstead Phoenix Friday night at home. The girls lost 58-22 and the boys were bested 67-47.

In the girls matchup the Lady Yellow Jackets just couldn’t seem to make movement offensively throughout the entire game. They created opportunities on defense but just couldn’t seem to convert.

The leading scorers for the Lady Yellow Jackets were Sophomore Kayla Adams with 12 points. That was followed by senior point guard, Kamri Davis with five of her own. Quentrell Reed and Kamil Johnson contribute two points and Madison Lanier adds one point to the scoreboard.

The boys matchup looked a little different. Both teams seemed evenly matched in the first half of the game. At the end of the first quarter, both the Phoenix and the Yellow Jackets were tied at 11. By the half, the Yellow Jackets were up 24-23.

In the first half of the game, the Phoenix were putting up multiple shots that just weren’t seeming to fall. That changed in the second half for New Hampstead quickly. The Phoenix started making three’s fall like it was a 100 percent chance of rain. In the second half of the game, the Phoenix made seven three pointers to put the final nail in the coffin for the Yellow Jackets.

Leading scorers for the Yellow Jackets were junior guard Brandon O’dowd with 13 points. That was followed up by Trey Jones with 10 points, Zachary Wells with seven, Kyon Taylor with six points, Christian Linen with five points, Brandon Wells with four and Michael Dixon with two points to the scoreboard.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Saturday night as they take on the Bryan County Redskins. The girls game will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.
