Parker Claxton earns bid for NCAA Championship

Parker Claxton, a standout golfer for Georgia Southern, has punched his ticket to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship after an impressive performance this season.

Junior Parker Claxton of the Georgia Southern men's golf has earned an individual bid to the Auburn Regional for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship as announced on The GOLF Channel Wednesday afternoon. 

The Auburn Regional is scheduled for May 12-14 at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Alabama, where Claxton will compete against players from 13 teams and nine other individuals. The top five teams and the top individual not on those teams will advance to the finals, which will be played May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The field in the Auburn Regional consists of top-ranked Auburn, Texas A&M, UCLA, SMU, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Purdue, Little Rock, TCU, Charleston, New Mexico State, Loyola Maryland and USC Upstate. The nine other individuals come from ULM, Kennesaw State, North Alabama, Chattanooga, Memphis, Arkansas State, Presbyterian and UT Martin.

Ranked #168 individually by Clippd, Claxton will be making his second appearance in the NCAA Championship (first as an indy) and is the fourth Eagle to earn an NCAA Championship individual bid, the first since Steven Fisk in 2018. Aron Price was selected in 2004 and Bo Fennell was selected in both 1990 and 1991. He was named all conference for the third year on Tuesday, earning first-team honors for the first time.

Claxton is averaging 71.31 strokes per round, which is the 11th-lowest in program history. The Claxton, Georgia, native took runner-up honors at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate, shooting a 208 (-8) and tied for third at the Schenkel Invitational with a 210 (-6).
