NaJ Watson Earns Sun Belt Track Performer of the Year Honors

Watson is the first Eagle to win performer of the year for the Sun Belt Conference.

Georgia Southern sophomore Naj Thomas earned Sun Belt Women's Track Performer of the Year as announced by the Sun Belt Conference last week. The award was voted on by the head coaches of the Sun Belt Conference track and field programs and is the first Eagle to garner the award. 

Watson became the first conference champion in the 200m at the conference indoor championships with a personal best time of 23.38 for the second fastest time in program history. She also took place second place in the 60m tying the school record of 7.39 previously set by Devine Parker. Watson then anchored the 4x400 team, setting a meet and school record with a time of 3:40:99 to secure the victory. The sophomore was named the High-Point Scorer at the Sun Belt Championships posting the most individual points of 20.5.

The 4x400 team of Watson, Sofia Melina, Lauren Euler, and Alanna Smith earned first team all-conference honors for their meet and school record performance. Smith was also crowned conference champion winning the 400m with a time of 54.43. 

Imani Moore earned third team all-conference after finishing third in the long jump.
