Georgia Southern head baseball coach Rodney Hennon announced Saturday a change to his staff as assistant coach for pitching A.J. Battisto will not have his contract renewed.
"Making coaching changes is never easy—especially when it involves someone who has given so much to this program as both a coach and a former player," Hennon said. "A.J. Battisto is a proud alum who has poured his heart into Georgia Southern Baseball, and we are truly grateful for his years of dedication. However, after carefully evaluating the entire Eagle program over the season and in the past two days since our season ended, I believe it's time for a new direction with our pitching staff to meet the high standards we have set for this program. We wish A.J. nothing but success in his future endeavors.
"Our search for a new pitching coach will begin immediately, and we're committed to finding the right leader to develop our staff and help us compete at the highest level."
Battisto returned to the Georgia Southern baseball program as the pitching coach in 2022. As a player for the Eagles, he posted a 12-0 record with 12 saves over three years on the mound, earning second-team All-SoCon honors in 2007. Battisto initially began his career at the professional level after being selected in the 30th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft out of Georgia Southern.
