GS's clay shooting team ranks at national competition

Georgia Southern University Southern Clay Target Team saw success at the National Collegiate competition in Las Vegas.

The Georgia Southern University Southern Clay Target Team recently traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, to participate in the National Collegiate Shooting Sports Athletic Association (NCSSAA) National Collegiate competition. Nearly 40 teams of a combined 400 athletes competed in the event. Two-time national champions GSU brought home the Division I National Champion Runner-Up title this year.

Taylor Wray also secured her spot as the 2023 Division I HOA (High Overall) Lady at the national competition. Wray shot 280/300 targets in the main competition, along with an additional 30 shoot-off targets and 10 “shoot till you miss” targets. Wray also placed first in Ladies' Skeet with 98/100, shot 96/100 in Trap, and tied for 3rd in Ladies' Sporting Clays.

Other awards and stats from the GS team at the event are as follows.

Skeet:

  • Taylor Wray: 1st place lady
  • Cheyenne Anderson: 2nd place lady
  • Chet Thompson and Andrew Weiche: Tied for 4th place
  • GSU Team: 2nd Place (Chet Thompson, Andrew Weiche, Dawson Peek, Tate Skipper, Taylor Wray)

Trap:

  • GSU Team: 3rd Place (Gabe Collins, Rich Pazderski, Andrew Weiche, Andrew Cohen, Neal Sellers)

Sporting Clays:

  • Cheyenne Anderson: Tied for 1st lady; Shoot-off to place 2nd
  • Taylor Wray: Tied for 3rd lady; Shoot-off to place 4th
  • Rich Pazderski: 3rd place
  • Gabe Collins and Tate Skipper: Tied for 4th place
  • GSU Team: 1st Place (Rich Pazderski, Gabe Collins, Tate Skipper, Dawson Peek, Andrew Cohen)
  • HOA Lady: Taylor Wray 1st Place
  • HOA Team: Georgia Southern Runner-Up/2nd Place (Andrew Weiche, Dawson Peek, Tate Skipper, Rich Pazderski, Gabe Collins)
