In an emotional night, Georgia Southern men's basketball used that to tie the most points it scored this season with a 92-75 win over Old Dominion.
"We feel like we are playing well going into the conference tournament, which is where we want to be," head coach Charlie Henry said. "It took a long, winding road to get here, but we are feeling good."
Before the game, the team honored seniors Malik Tidwell and Johnny McFatten and senior managers Matt Gergans, Lars Gjelhaug and J'Van Kenney.
The Eagles (8-23, 8-10 Sun Belt) set a new school record by going a perfect 20-20 from the free-throw line and made six more threes than the Monarchs (7-24, 3-15) to lock up the ninth seed in the conference tournament.
Over three minutes, Tyren Moore made three three-pointers to go up 18-8 with 15:40 left.
The Eagles kept their foot on the gas for the remainder of the first half. Jamar Franklin's jumper made it an 11-point game with 1:53 left, which the team stretched to 15 after Moore's three right before the buzzer.
Moore scored 23 first-half points and the 15-point halftime lead tied for the team's biggest this season.
GS didn't waver much in the second stanza. Nate Brafford put the team up by 19 after a lay-in at 15:42. The Monarchs never got to within less than ten, and Avantae Parker put the team up 20 at 4:10 - the team's second-largest lead of the year.
Moore would increase his output to 32 points as the Eagles won 92-75.
Moore is the first Eagle since Elton Nesbitt in 2005 to have four or more 30-point games in a season, averaging 28 points per game over the two games this week.
"It's always good to head into the conference tournament with a little momentum," Moore said. "We've got to get back to the drawing board and start working. All the guys in this locker room still believe we can go down there and do something special."
Tidwell scored 14 on his senior day, and Brafford chipped in 10 to round out the double-figure scorers. Parker led the team with eight rebounds.
The Eagles shot a perfect 20-20 from the line, their best effort from the line without a miss in school history. It broke the previous record of 16-16 set at Miami in 2013.
The blue & white dished 17 assists in the game, three shy of their season-high. The 92 points the team scored also tied a season-best.
Georgia Southern has secured the ninth seed in the conference tournament and will play its first game on Thursday.
