CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team took down the Charlotte 49ers in the first match up between the two teams since 2018. Along with the victory, the Eagles now lead the overall series between the two squads, 3-2.
The morning started in doubles matches, where duo Judson Blair and Pierre Mouesca took down their opponents at the No. 3 position, 6-1, to take the first match in doubles. The Charlotte duo at the No. 2 position took their match to set up the No. 2 position with the tiebreaker. Valentin Dun and Alexandros Roumpis battled back from a deficit to defeat their opponents 6-4, and give the Eagles the 1-0 lead on the match.
In singles, Mouesca continued his tear and finished his match first at the No. 3 position, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-2, to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead on the day. Charlotte would come back to tie the match with victories at the No. 5 (6-3, 7-5) and No. 4 (6-1, 7(7)-6(3)) positions, but Roumpis at the No. 6 position took down his opponent with a 7-5, 6-4 victory, setting the stage for Aaron James Williams to clinch the match for the Eagles, with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Pol del Castillo Masich's match at the No. 1 position was unfinished, but Del Castillo was in the third set, 5-7, 6-2, 4-2 when his match was called.

The Eagles will open up conference play against Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. First serve is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18.
