Gators' Offense Too Much for Panthers in Rematch

The Portal Panthers men's varsity soccer team hosted the Bulloch Academy Gators at the Portal Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening. The Gators came away with a 5-0 victory.

Portal- The Portal Panthers men's varsity soccer team hosted the Bulloch Academy Gators at the Portal Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening. The two teams played on March 28 and the Gators took home a 6-0 victory. This matchup played out the same way as Bulloch Academy defeated Portal 5-0. 

A tenacious offensive attack led to the Gators getting several shots on goal during their 5-0 victory of the Portal Panthers. They were determined to have a repeat of the two teams' first matchup. 

The Panthers found themselves down 3-0 at the half. The game went the same as the first one. Bulloch Academy took control early and the Panthers couldn't do much in response. Sammy Mendez scored a goal in the opening minutes of the second half to extend the Gators' lead. Angelo Periera scored the final goal of the game to make the score 5-0. 

Periera's goal in the in the second goal was his second goal of the game. His first came in 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Periera now has 4 goals over his last 2 games against Portal. Isaiah Smart scored the first goal of the game with 28 minutes left in the first half. 

Bulloch Academy's record improves to 5-2 on the season. Portal falls to 6-5-1 on the season. The Panthers have hit a rough patch late in the season. Portal is looking for their first win since March 19 against McIntosh County Academy. The Panthers have one game left in the regular season and desperately need a win to prepare for the playoffs. 

The Gators have won 4 of their last 5 games. With 4 games remaining in the regular season, the Gators have a great chance to build momentum before the playoffs.
