Eagles Drop Series Finale, 10-2

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 10-2 to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.

The Eagles (2-5) got on the board first when Kent Schmidt endured a 11-pitch at-bat to come out with an RBI-single up the middle, scoring Sam Blancato and taking the early 1-0 lead.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fifth inning when Bryan Chance knocked a three-RBI double to left center field, setting the Bulldogs (4-4) up with a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs added an insurance run with a David Mershon RBI-single. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs scored five more runs to pad the lead to 9-1.

JP Herrholz knocked his first collegiate hit in the top of the eighth inning to score Jarrett Brown and get the Eagles its second run of the day, but MSU scored one more in the home half of the eighth to set the final to 10-2.

Ty Fisher was tagged with the loss after 4.2 innings of work, fanning four while only allowing three runs. Jurrangelo Cijentje took the win in the contest.
