ATHENS, Ga. - Luke Hatcher's grand slam in the top of the sixth inning broke the game between Georgia Southern and Georgia wide open, leading to a 12-2 victory for the Eagles in Athens on Wednesday night. Georgia Southern is winners in six of the last eight games leading up to this weekend's series against Old Dominion.

The Eagles (13-12) wasted no time getting on the board, starting with a Jarrett Brown RBI-double to drive Jesse Sherrill home. Noah Ledford followed up with an RBI-double of his own to score Brown, taking a 2-0 lead before Georgia (15-10) ever went to the bat racks. UGA cut the lead in half with a sac fly in the bottom of the first.

Georgia Southern doubled the lead in the top of the second inning with a Brown RBI-single that scored JP Tighe, followed with a Ledford RBI-groundout that scored Kyler Hultgren. The Eagles continued the scoring in the top of the fifth inning when Hultgren singled to second base, scoring Luke Hatcher. In the top of the sixth inning, the Eagles would blow the game open, first with a Ledford RBI-single bringing Sherrill home, followed by Hatcher's first grand slam with the Eagles, plating Sam Blancato, Ledford, and Brown, setting the Eagles up with a 10-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

UGA scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning but would not drive another run across the plate for the rest of the night, while the Eagles brought in two more in the top of the seventh. Brown continued his career night by scoring on a wild pitch, and Hatcher earned a fifth RBI by bringing Ledford home on a sac fly, taking a 12-2 lead that would eventually turn into the final.

Will Robbins earned his first collegiate win by pitching for three scoreless innings, giving up a single hit but not allowing anyone to cross home. Robbins fanned two UGA batters in 40 pitches. Bulldogs freshman Kolten Smith took the loss.
