Eagle Softball Notches 9-2 Win Over Presbyterian

The Eagles hit the road for its fourth tournament of the season at USF in Tampa, Fla. GS will compete against Central Michigan, Louisville, USF, Villanova, and Florida Gulf Coast. The first game is set for March 1 against Central Michigan at 1 p.m.

STATESBORO –  The Georgia Southern softball team notched its tenth win of the season over Presbyterian, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon at Beautiful Eagle Field. 

The Eagles opened up the bottom of the first posting two runs on three hits for an early 2-0 lead. Emma Davis led off the inning with a base hit before Katie Perkins drove her in on a RBI single. With runners on first and second, Faith Barthscored Perkins on an RBI single. 

After two scoreless innings, the Blue Hose tied things up in the top of the fourth after back-to-back singles and a sacrifice to move runners in scoring position, M. Farthing drove in the first run of the inning with a base hit. The next batter recorded a sacrifice fly to plate the second run. 

GS would respond in the bottom half of the frame after Janai Conklin drew a lead off walk,  Kelsey Harper tallied her X hit of the game, then Thames used a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Davis extended the lead 4-0, driving in pinch-runner Brooke Kell and Harper on an RBI single. 

The scoring continued in the fifth when Harper drove in Faith Barth and Perkins on a base hit to make it 6-2. Perkins led off the inning with a hit by pitch and Barth drew a four pitch walk.

In the sixth, the Eagles tallied three more runs on three hits to make the final score 9-2. 

Dixiana Sims (2-0) picked up the win in the circle tossing 1.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits. Starting pitcher Anslie Pettit secured her second career save after reentering in the fifth allowing just three hits and fanning seven. 

Davis, Barth, and Harper led the Eagle offense combining to go 8-for-10 in the contest. The trio combined for six RBI.
