STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's soccer head coach Chris Adams has announced the addition of assistant coach Dimitri Kaliakin to his staff for 2024.
Kaliakin comes to Statesboro from University Park, Texas where he served as the women's soccer assistant coach at Southern Methodist University for the 2023 season. He helped head coach Nicole Nelson in leading the SMU Mustangs to the American Athletic Conference Championship game, where they fell to the #8 Memphis Tigers. Three athletes, Nyah Rose, Peyton Annen, and Emma Alvord, stood out as All-AAC honorees during the 2023 season. Rose and Annen were also awarded United Soccer Coaches' All-South Region honors after the conclusion of the AAC tournament.
Before his work at Southern Methodist, Kaliakin served a brief stint as a graduate assistant coach for the Ole Miss Rebels during their 2023 offseason.
Kaliakin's first coaching position came at Washington College immediately after his graduation. He served as the assistant coach for men's soccer during the 2017-18 academic year and returned as a full-time assistant coach in March of 2019. In spring of 2021 Kaliakin began working with both the men's and women's programs at Washington College before transitioning fully to the women's soccer assistant coach in July of 2021.
Coaching at Washington College was familiar territory for Kaliakin as he graduated from the university as a member of the men's soccer team in May of 2017 with a degree in Mathematics. During his time as a player at Washington College, Kaliakin accumulated honors to add to his impressive career. In his sophomore season (2014) he was selected to the All-Centennial Conference second team and was named the team's MVP. He was named to the All-Centennial Conference and All-Mid-Atlantic Region first teams as a senior (2016), in addition to being the team's MVP and receiving the Eldridge Eliason Award for academic and athletic achievement. In his senior season, Kaliakin lead the team with 12 assists to set the Washington College school record with 32 career assists.
Kaliakin is also registered as a certified Coerver Coach and holds a United Soccer Coaches National Diploma.
