Georgia Southern men's basketball notched its first road win of the 2023-24 season with a 76-68 triumph over UL Monroe at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Saturday.
The Eagles (2-13, 2-1 Sun Belt) dominated the first half, and despite an onslaught by the Warhawks (4-9, 0-3), used timely scoring and rebounding late to seal the win.
"Great to get a road win, and we're still learning how to do it," head coach Charlie Henry said. "We did some great things in the first half, and when they made their run in the second half, we got a lineup out there that got some key stops and rebounds."
Eren Banks knocked down a three on the game's first possession and GS held onto a two-point lead by the first media timeout. A Malik Tidwell three made it a 12-point lead during the late portion of the first half.
David Jones' jumper put the lead back to 12 with a minute remaining, as the Warhawks scratched three points off the deficit to trail 38-29 heading into the break.
The Eagles held ULM to just a 2-12 mark from three-point range in the first while shooting 46.9 percent from the field.
ULM stormed back to take a four-point lead with a little under 11 minutes remaining in the second half, but the Eagles never wilted. Eugene Brown III's three-pointer at 6:08 put the Eagles up 59-57, and the team never looked back.
Brown continued an unconscious stretch in the second frame, scoring nine points over the final five minutes to stretch his point total to 20, a new career-high.
"We just stayed together today," Brown said. "We've had a lot of adversity throughout the season, but today we rallied together, and the shots were falling."
Cam Bryant laid down an emphatic dunk in the waning seconds to seal a 76-68 victory.
Brown III's 20 led the Eagles, while Tyren Moore had 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists, a season-best. Bryant had eight points and eight rebounds, while Banks and Nate Brafford also contributed eight points.
The Eagles shot an even 50 percent overall and 11-28 from three, all while holding ULM to a 4-22 mark from three-point land, an 18.2 percent clip which was a season-low for any Georgia Southern opponent.
Georgia Southern returns to the road for a date at Marshall on Jan. 10.
