The Gardens hosts first-ever Bikini Contest

Forget the typical swimsuit competition. The Gardens in Statesboro, GA, recently held a unique event, 'Sassy Seniors: Swimsuit Edition,' proving that fun and laughter have no age limit.

On June 13th, 2025, The Gardens Statesboro, GA held its 1st-ever Bikini Contest, with a creative twist. “Sassy Seniors: Swimsuit Edition”   was all about ‘Fun and Laughter’.

“The goal was to kick-off summer with some old-fashioned fun,” said Cindy Carter, Activity Director. “We have several new residents and want them to meet each other and make connections.”

Two weeks leading up to the event, residents designed their own bikinis using poster board, markers and imagination. Each resident modeled their one-of-a-kind creation during the contest.

Two awards were presented: 'Most Creative,' selected by a panel of staff judges, and 'Fan Favorite,' determined by audience reaction through cheers, claps, and laughter.

Ms. Annie Teague won the “Most Creative” title. “While working on her bikini, she reminded me each time to hide my design so no one would copy it,” shared Carter. “She wanted it to be a big surprise.”

Ms. Janell Marsh was voted “Fan Favorite” with the loudest applause and cheers.

Both winners were crowned with a headband of flowers and awarded the Golden Pineapple, a symbol of their creativity and spirit.

Carter said, “The activity announcement sparked curiosity. It was fun to hear their questions and speculations about what this contest would be like. My favorite part of being the Activity Director is getting the residents out of their rooms and helping put a smile on their faces. Hopefully, this was one of those times.”

In total, 10 residents participated and the event was judged by Cindy Carter and Jordan Sears, Executive. “Obviously our ‘Bikini Contest: Sassy Seniors Swimwear Edition’ wasn't about swimwear/bikinis, it was about smiling, laughing and celebrating life at any age," concluded Carter.
