Senior Moment | Chess and Pizza @ Holiday Pizza with the Chief

Grice Connect's senior reporter Michele LeBlanc had a night out on the town with one of her favorite young men, her grandson. They enjoyed a special night out with the Police Chief and friends. Free pizza was a nice bonus to the great camaraderie. You just never know where Michele will pop up next!

Hey y’all, nothing better than just playing chess, eating pizza and meeting new and old friends. Brush up on your chess skills, come solo, or bring one of your children, grands or a friend, and come to Holiday Pizza at 6:00 p.m. the 4th Wednesday of every month. This event is sponsored by the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library in cooperation with the Statesboro Police Foundation and can be found on the Grice Connect events calendar or or the library calendar. This is a NO Charge event. FREE!

WELL! WELL! Let me tell you a FUN story. Wednesday, early evening, after taking my grandson out to celebrate his GREAT achievements (that’s Grandma talk) we strolled into Holiday Pizza just to check out the ‘Chess and Pizza’ event.

Well, we were greeted with a handshake by Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead, who immediately recognized my grandson from Trinity Christian School, where the Chief had played chess with him and their chess team on several occasions. He and the Chief made an immediate connection.

Then two of his buddies from his current school greeted him and said, “Wanna play??" He responded “SURE,” and they were off and running. His next game was with Chief Broadhead, and his 3rd game was with a friend of a friend. There were about 30-35 people there ranging in age from 7 to 80ish. A GREAT mix. This can be a perfect night out with one of your children.

My grandson said upon leaving, “Loved the chess. Can we go back?” COOL, EH! “It’s a date,” I replied.

So Seniors, time to connect with your grands or a friend, grab your someone, and come over for Chess and Pizza!

Whether you are a skilled player, just learning, a tad rusty, or just a looker, experience is NOT a requirement. Chief Broadhead and the regulars want to see you there and will share in the FUN!

Time to come out of your comfort zone!
