July 29, 1971  -  June 9, 2025

Mr. Sterling (Boobie) Irvin, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, transitioned from this life Monday, June 9, 2025, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Born on July 29, 1971, Sterling was the son of the late Rosco Thomas and Mrs. Anna Irvin Brown.

A proud native of Bulloch County, Sterling received his early education in the Bulloch County School System and graduated from the Statesboro High School class of 1989. He went on to build a distinguished career as a professional union welder with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. His work took him across the country, allowing him not only to sharpen his craft but to form friendships wherever he traveled.

Outside of work, Sterling was a man of many passions. He was an avid fisherman, a skilled hunter, and a pool shark whose competitive streak was matched only by his sense of humor. He found joy in the outdoors, peace in the water, and strength in family.

Sterling was preceded in death by his father, Rosco Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 30 years, Mrs. Catherine Moore Irvin; two sons, Nikolas Merritt and Sterling N.L. Irvin; his loving mother and stepfather, Mrs. Anna Irvin (Napoleon) Brown, and his stepmother, Mrs. Zadye Thomas.

He is also survived by his siblings: Tracy L. Baker of Philadelphia, PA; Stacy (Donald) Lockhart of Statesboro, GA; Anastasia Brown of Valdosta, GA; Tequisha Thomas of Statesboro, GA; Allen Baker of Statesboro, GA; Bertrum Thomas of Jacksonville, FL; Andre Thomas of Statesboro, GA; Carlos Thomas of Jacksonville, FL; and Chad (Kalynn) Moore of Brunswick, GA.

His memory is further cherished by his uncles: Conley (Joan) Irvin, Sr., and Marvin (Nikki) Parrish, both of Statesboro, GA; his aunts: Patricia (Quincey) Taylor, Jeanette (Ira) Hendrix, both of Statesboro, GA, and Linda Thomas of Jacksonville, FL; nieces and nephews: Dejuan Rich, Octavious Collins, Murphy Applin, Jr., Dinesha Baker, Yun Lockhart, Zy Lockhart, Andrea Thomas, Tre’kevia Cosby, Zuri Burns, Rodriuna Mikell, Alashaia Mikell, Aaliyah Mikell, and Journi Tremble and Jackleen Hubbard.

He will also be deeply missed by his sister-in-law, Brenda Watts, and Geneva (Kevin) Moore Oros of Statesboro, GA, his brother-in-law, Chad (Kalynn) Moore of Brunswick, GA, and a host of other relatives, friends, and fellow tradesmen across the country.

Sterling “Boobie” Irvin’s life was a testament to loyalty, hard work, and love. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
